Nomination Papers Available for 3 year term commencing January 1, 2017

The Advisory Council of the Bristol County Retirement Board and Chairman Christine N. DeFontes has authorized and called for the nomination and election of the elected member of the Bristol County Retirement Board pursuant to M.G.L., Chapter 32, Section 20.

The elected member, who shall be a retired or active member of the Bristol County Retirement System, shall serve for a term of three years, and to qualify for nomination must pick up nomination papers from the Bristol County Retirement Board, County Crossing, 645 County Street, Taunton, Massachusetts.

Nomination papers are available during normal working hours, Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 8:15 a.m. through Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 4:00 p.m.

NOMINATION PAPERS MUST BE RETURNED NO LATER THAN NOON, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2016.

All QUALIFIED candidates are required to submit completed nomination papers which shall contain the signatures and addresses of at least twenty-five (25) active or retired members of the BRISTOL COUNTY RETIREMENT SYSTEM. Upon proper qualification and certification by the Advisory Council to the Bristol County Retirement System, under the provisions of Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 32, Section 20, the Advisory Council will call for an election if, after investigation, the election board determines that more than one candidate has obtained the requisite number of valid signatures. In that event, the Advisory Council shall notify said candidates of such determination and shall immediately prepare for an election.

Ballots will be mailed to all active and retired members of the Retirement System who shall have the opportunity to cast their vote for the candidate of their choice.
